The following receipt was occasion'd by a quarrel between
'Squire Ingr-m of Great Woolford in Warwickshire, and the
curate of the same place, who was poor enough; and the
'Squire would give him no more for his Easter-offerings than
just what he could demand, viz. Two pence a head:
Accordingly sends his footman with six pence, and bids him
bring a receipt. The curate sat down, and, without
hesitation, wrote him the following.
Know every Christian man alive,
In seventeen hundred thirty five,
The second day of May, the hour
To tell you, is not in my power,
